I love the water types best (Blastoise and Empolion FTW) The power of the water vs the weakness of the grass just pissed me off :U

I personally love Chikorita. I like the other starters, too, but I generally go for the grass starters.

Great illustration.
I can imagine that it was some kind of torture for the players of the original GSC. But in generation IV Meganium can actually learn Swords Dance (if you are good at Voltorb Flip). So, this punching bag can go on a rampage, too.

Grass Starters
Grass is usualy very good except Chikorita... I totaly agree, but the worst starter is Mudkip. I would know. That was the worst mistake in my game.
Then agian I was five when I got it.

I picked totodile
When he evolved into feraligator, i challenged my best bud to an open level match. Her Megainium was level eighty and my Toto was four levels lower and i STILL kicked her butt! (And her irratating brother's too! >:D)

S.M. you clearly have no knowledge of competitive battle in the more complex aspects of Pokemon.
Swampert is a fearsome foe and is in OU tier for his many capabilities. Grass Knot can take a toll on him if not completely wreck him, but he still ends up being very very useful.

it's odd...
See, Chikorita is one of my favorite pokemon, yet I hate Meganium. Probably bcuz of its suckish attack.

I always go for grass type starter... I'll be sure to give Chiki a skip lol. Always wondered what it'd be like to go for one of the others anyway...

WRONG
Chikorita may be hard to train at first, but trust me, the person who chooses it on almost every crystal play through when I say: Meganium is epic. Good at walling physically, inducing special effects, and doing damage. BUT, as it is quite hard to train at the beginning, I recommend Cyndaquil for beginners.

This is the reason I read the part of the game manual which includes the gym leaders before I pick a starter.
I have 2 games: Soulsilver and White
Soulsilver Starter: Cyndaquil, got pretty far with it, but stopped using it when I figured out it wants to kill me
White Starter: Snivy, It's awesome, but if you want to sucessful in the 2nd Gym go with Tepig

[insert witty comment title]
I picked Chikorita in the beginning to increase the difficulty for myself. Which came true I suppose, but the gyms of the second generation and the league afterwards have truly picked a type bracket unsuitable for grass starters (not effective against 5 gyms, weak against 3). But that's not the point behind this comic strip. Those who shun the complex aspects of pokemon like the plague, you may as well skip the next paragraph.
Meganium has few options available to be a dependable asset in the offensive department. If you chose a moveset themed with special attack, you'll pretty much only have grass moves available. If you go physical, you have a slightly larger arsenal to pick from, but there are no good physical grass moves to find before the elite four, so that one STAB Meg has will sadly go unused. AND THUS he's generally best as a supporter, seeing as he has plenty of screens to choose from, along with aromatherapy to cleanse your team of sinister effects and battle ailments. But he will still take a beating setting his stuff up, which therefore makes us return to the point of the comic:
Your Meganium will be taking punches like there's no tomorrow. He can endure, but he won't intimidate too many opponents.
It should be noted that Meganium can still be awesome, just not before the Elite Four. Or if you pick up breeding before that. I made mine learn Leech Seed, which quite frankly, is one of the best thing Meg can have in his set. Your clone in Viridian city will agree.
