Very much like the simple bush tree, the ledges have for the longest time mocked any adventurer in search of items or new territories, so anyone who shares my compulsive need to collect everything in sight should be able to sympathise with me on this one. One could argue that this particular guy could just stretch and reach for it, but that's just an optical illusion.
Black and White 2 is also out, so my attention has been divided at best during the production of this strip. I usually tend to hold off the strips for the new games a while to give everyone a fair chance of getting to play them first, but those who was inclined to get it has probably already gotten it by now. Maybe. I like playing it safe.
In other news, my last strip which featured a Vanilluxe documentary got mixed reactions, but several asked if I had more strips in store in that same theme. Which is to say no, as of yet. But it's been a long while since I last featured someone, so if you want more examples of pokémon placed in a wildlife environment, I'd suggest checking out Professor Baobab's Field Guide, made by Casteel. While the logs aren't aimed to be funny, they are aimed to be realistic, with some really good illustrations to go along with them.
Trainer: I wish dat TM
It's mocking me...MOCKING ME I TELL YOU!
Then again, it's hard to hate a game with electric mice and living ice cream cones...
AMEN! Let that HM be true in the next game! Please Nitendo!
The worst part is when you go on such a detour to get the item and it is something useles, like a Pokéball, or a Foongus :/
Honestly, WHY do they put that there? Is it there to purposely annoy you? To pump yourself to play through the game?
And yes, I do recall that happening in R/S/E more than in any other game.
Even worse, there's an HM 'Fly' in every game.
Isn't there one of the versions where you can pick which bike you get and one of them can go up cliffs? Can't quite remeber what the trick bikes were.
Glad there's been one of Ruby!
Aaaand it turns out to be a Foongus... I really hate those pokemons...
Yeah, I tend to collect every pokeball I see, although I really hate it when you can't get to an item and it's blocked of by those accursed ledges.
Chances are... it's just a potion and you're already in the lvl 40's. Or a Foongus as stated above. I wonder if next game they're going to put trollface on these pokéballs...
The sad part is that he looks tall enough that he could just reach for it... Which would add extra 'fun' to the Foongus idea.
Gameshark used HAX! It's super effective!
So many times, I have wanted that HM...
Thanks for keeping up the comics. I really enjoy reading these.
Seriously don't get why pokemon can't just climb up ledges...
It sucks when you walk around and around, finally get up that ledge, and fall off. You try again and its something utterly useless.
Edit: I love the way you tied the second panel to the third to make it a thought!
To many times now in Black White 2 I will see an item, spray a Max Repel and go out of my way for it, just to find its a Max Repel and it took the whole damn can just to get this new can...
I find going out of my way just to get something stupid like that more annoying then just an item out of reach.
Personally I found the Vanilluxe strip to be one of the most interesting adaptations of Pokémon I've ever seen. Not only did you provide us with a fascinating life-cycle for the new ice-type, you included a food chain and made Jynx of all things actually seem spooky. I loved it.
Ledge Leap would be an amazing HM but In terms of game design though I think they include out of reach items to promote further exploration.
How would this move work in battle?
@KingErikClusters: Evasion, possibly?
@Gamining King: Or a two-turn attack like fly or bounce.
Oh God, I know this SOO WELL! You see pokeball items on the other side of the fence, and I'll literally spend 15 minutes trying to figure out how the actual fuck I'm suppose to get it. I've also surfed through practically 50 miles of water to get an item... and since I hate using repels, crossing water is some sort of tentacruel hell... I understand your pain, my friend.
Yeah, I hate that at the beginning of the game in B/W 2, there are a bunch of items that you can only get when it's Autumn. They drove me up the wall trying to figure out how to get them at first until I read how to get them on the internet. So I wasn't able to get them until Nov.1st. After I had already beaten the main story and the items were practically useless to me. <.<
Does anybody else wonder why the kid is wearing a pair of pants under his shorts? It seems uncomfortable.
Oh, hey, you read the Pokemon Field Guide too? It's pretty awesome.
why can't he just fly over?
or use rock climb!
@Miakakilalai: Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald had two bikes. The Acro Bike and the Mach Bike. The Acro went normal speed and you could use it to hop around and go across narrow bridges and sometimes hop along rocks to a higher ledge. But only if the rocks were actually there. The Mach could be used to ride up sandy slopes onto higher ledges.
@RCat: Maybe there are those shorts that unfold on the inside and become pants for going through thorny grass and stuff.
Thanks for mentioning my art! I appreciate every bit of it when someone spreads the word of my Pokemon Field Guide project! Thanks again and I love the stripes. Difinitely a new fan!
You have earned my respect by drawing Rubys real hair under his hat. Everyone thinks his hat is hair.
Why do you only update once a month or so? :(
I love your comics, needs more.
HM07: Ledge Leap. BEST HM EVER!
@Bumbazzle: Is this comic just about the normal pokemon games.
So you'll never make a comic about pokemon spin-off gamesm(such as pokemon mystety duegon) right.
Also have you tried pokemon Black 2.
I got its epic.
I also have the dream radar.
Which is for getting pokemon.
Well the good thing is that its cheap as $3.64 with Tax.
But the bad thing is that is only for the 3ds.
You can get the therian forms of the flying trio of unova
THAT HM. IT NEEDS TO EXIST.
@tsubasa-myuu: I've been worshiping gen 3 for my whole life, and I always picked Brendan, but I never knew that his white 'hair' was a hat! I thought that was just crap that the manga made up. Don't get me wrong, the manga is still good, but it's almost always (no, wait. ALWAYS) inaccurate compared to the games.
@Gamining King: Except that the manga is considered canon moreso than the game. So the manga is actually MORE accurate than the games.
@Reprimand: games are cannon to games manga to manga anime to anime
dont cross the streams
@Reprimand: There are millions of manga based off of the Pokemon games. Pokemon adventure, Pokemon Zenshu, Pokemon Diamond and pearl, and thousands more. There is one official game series created by Nintendo, not some random third party company, not including side-game crap. Anime is considered official by Nintendo, but really has nothing to do with the real games. More like an alternate universe. Same as the game except without the real protagonists.
Little does he realize that that item -is- the TM for Ledge Leap. But Ledge Leap is the only way to get at it
It should have been a ledge only 2" high to further point his laziness.
@Reprimand: How the hell could you have come to that conclusion? The games are the primary canon, as the games are the original medium for the series. Not the (plethora of various) Manga, not the Anime, the games. I bet you're one of those people who think they're so clever, making entirely incorrect assumptions based upon what is usually the case, and making absolutely no attempt to research the particular case.
If they do make a TM like this it'll probably be a Post game HM
lol i read all your comic in one day and i loved them.Btw are you going to pokemon B/W2 plz?
@Timberheart: It has been claimed as one of the best comics here... and maybe on the internet
Wouldn't work. It'd defeat the whole object of them being there. It'd also render many dungeons obsolete.
Pokemon trainer needs to climb up. Chikorita used cut!
The action was complete waste of your time.
How does he go down those things on Bikes??? Wouldn't you... ummmmmmmmmm... die doing that? The wierdest part is that the bike hops up when going down. I get how he could just jump down, making the jump sensible, but on a bike??? Really? Once again, Nintendo, once again.
I absolutely love Rare Candy Treatment and look forward to every time it updates.
So I thank you a lot for that.
I especially thank you however for linking to CasteelArt's "Professor Baobab's Field Guide". I'd never heard of it before and I've fallen in love with it too, and it's inspired me to try my own hand at drawing pokemon.
So, a massive thank you Bumbazzle, for the constantly great artwork and showing me another fantastic artist!
Cut: Eventally breaks and falls
Rock break:Breaks and falls
Surf: Surfs so far that the ledge is withen jump reach and jumps off pokemon
Waterfall ride(Cant remember the name!):Rides waterfall next to ledge and jumps off in time
Fly: Fly's up there
Rock climb:Climbs up then jumps off.
Yup... also see my comment in Ballin,
You have captivated me with all those fans. . .I fave'd
@smash: Need a Pokemon Center to fly! Maybe instead of trying to teach the Pokemon something to let them jump up, we should all just carry mini pokecens and throw them across the fence or up the ledge so that we can fly there.
@Melon: I wish I had mini-Pokemon Centers for when I was travelling around. Would've been much more helpful than spamming potions at my Pokemon. :P
@Miakakilalai: In Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald, you can pick the Acro Bike, which can hop uphill on stones. You still can't over ridges without the hopping stones though.
Haha, honestly, he doesn't even need a HM. All he needs to do is lift his hand and reach for it.
@he who has no name: another way is to throw your pokemon up there and have it bring it down
What's worse is when the item in question requires you to trek through Mt. Pipis (home of the biggest Zubat population in the world), into the tunnel of a rare sub-species of Geodude that's made of explodium, and sail down the river of Tentacool (as in the river is made of them). Then you get to the item and... it's a Potion. The kind you can buy at the Pokemart for pocket change.
Or worse, it's a Voltorb that explodes itself on the first turn.
THAT SHOULD BE A REAL HM!!!!!!!!!!
How would he use that in battle?
Why don't they make bounce a HM?
EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. I swear, sometimes the area is straight up inaccessible and it's just there to TAUNT you. STOP TAUNTING MEEE!
