Edit: I have been of great error.

Hours ago I published a strip making a pun out of bicycles and the pokémon Gear. However, that turned out to be a failure. Gear isn't the english name. It's the japanese. The english is Klink. With its evolution being Klank.

This raises a series of questions. How much had I checked my facts before making the strip? Had my memories of battling Klink become suppressed during these latter days? Am I a retard? All valid questions. Regardless, the entire point the strip based itself upon (which, quite frankly, wasn't much to begin with) was entirely inaccurate, and thus, I had to take it down immediately.

But I didn't want to wipe out all traces of all of this, as I neither want to deny this great mistake of mine, or purge everyone's comments from the face of the internet. Therefore, I threw together a little something as a quick replacement. Partially so that everyone visiting here today may get a smile out of it after all, partially because Sawk and Throh looks much better in suits, but also as a thank you for everyone who didn't kept shut and instead lay the truth down in front of me. Never believe that you can't. A larger version is available RIGHT HERE

Next strip will come Friday. And this time I'll be checking my facts.

-----------------------

Original entry:

At times, I wonder if I make lame jokes on purpose.

The two-geared bike in Diamond and Pearl was bit of a delight to roam around with, but the bike in Black and White is ruled by one gear and one gear only, which was a bit of a let-down. Gear is also the name of the cog creature in the last strip, coincidentally enough, so the deal to get a bike equipped with another gear could in this case be interpreted in two ways.

But to speak off the record, I personally find the name Gear to be far too unimaginative. Why couldn't it be 'Klank'? Klank is good. Klank is firm. I like Klank. And Klank likes me.

13 Jun 2011 03:22 pm

I'm assuming you know Gear is the Japanese name and Klank is the English one, judging by your description? :S

13 Jun 2011 03:24 pm

Actually...his English name IS Klink. And it's evolution is Klank...

What version do you have?

13 Jun 2011 03:29 pm

@TTopHat

His evolution name is 'Klang'. Get your names right.

13 Jun 2011 04:30 pm

Gear is the Japanese name, and the english name is Klink and its evo. is Klank. P.S. : You could have done a better job drawing the last panel, though.

13 Jun 2011 04:35 pm

What's with the animation here?

Your previous illustrations of this guy were pretty good, but this?

13 Jun 2011 04:56 pm

That this reminds me of GearMon

13 Jun 2011 05:00 pm

another okay comic

13 Jun 2011 05:02 pm

Let's get something straight.

Japanese -> English:
Gear -> Klink
Gigear -> Klang
Gigigear -> Klinklang

13 Jun 2011 05:21 pm

I like some of the Japanese names better.

Tsutarja-> Snivy :)
Pokabu-> Tepig >:(
Mijumaru-> Oshawott Wtf?

13 Jun 2011 05:30 pm

this is my new desktop background

13 Jun 2011 05:41 pm

@Pokeman: I later realised that the last panel could have used some additional work in both structure and sense of movement, but as I was running out of time I left things as they were. Not an excuse in itself, but it sure is something!

@Megamean: I went for a little more realistic approach this time, with wrinkles and such. Is that what you're referring to? Otherwise I'd need you to be more precise (although that'd be hard as it's removed PARDON).

13 Jun 2011 05:56 pm

where can I find the original strip that was here? please can you post it

13 Jun 2011 05:57 pm

does anyone have a link to the ORIGINAL comic

13 Jun 2011 06:06 pm

I saw it, hah! And I agree with megamean. Maybe a bit overworked details, the protagonist looked more dead than pale and something was off with the perspective too. A harsh treatment of your eye candy. That's rare.

13 Jun 2011 06:15 pm

I think you're putting yourself down too hard because of this so-called error. So what if you made an error, if anything, you've only piqued my curiosity and it makes me more curious as to what this comic originally was before you replaced it.

Seriously, so what if you called it Gear? When Gen IV came out, I still called some Pokemon by their Japanese names out of habit after reading so many press-releases when DP was in development. Likewise with Gen V. Anyone can make these errors. And some people still insist on calling Pokemon by their Japanese names. I tend to do that occasionally with the Gen I Pokes.

Again, seriously, why make such a big deal out of this.

13 Jun 2011 06:17 pm

Would you repost the original? I'd find it funny wether it had a mistake or not, but I didn't get to see it. :(
Besides, all you had to say in order to turn it around was that you were making fun of the Japanese name and your problem would no longer exist. ;)

13 Jun 2011 07:48 pm

@raredandy: I most likely wouldn't have budged with the detail matter. I am constantly switching and experimenting with styles, so every now and then there will most likely be a strip which is unusual compared to its predecessors. Whether it will sink or float will be told after I submit it (or depending on the feedback I get from my peers), and the knowledge gained will have to be told afterwards. Not to mention that not everyone shares the same impressions.

But perspective and cold, dead appearances is definitly something I'm trying to improve and fix, so even though I felt content, I can agree that things felt a bit flat. Was trying to go with a strip dominated by a certain color (in this case brown), but that may have been the very thing that shot it down ahaha.

@Crystal and Arch: Thanks for your warming words, it's nice to know that there's always people looking forward anything I might put up. But sadly, I won't put it back up. The strip was constructed as an english pun, so even though its japanese name is well known (not to mention that Gear IS an english word), the joke would be lost or even further farfetched than what it originally was intended for.

In short, I didn't find it any funny anymore. I treat negative critisism as nothing but a cold shower if I believe in the strip myself, but if I don't, then why should I have it on my site? No one in the comments told me to trash it, so this decision of mine is me applying the very rules I abide by when I make strips in the first place.

I am sorry that you feel disappointed. Hence the reason why I drew something as replacement, so that people who hadn't seen it wouldn't be staring at a white void when coming over. And odds are that someone may have saved it (it was up for two hours after all) so it might be circling the nets this very instant, but regardless of the case, it won't be seen here again. Partially because it's a defect strip, partially because I stil might salvage the work if I change the third panel altogether. Time can only tell.

Thanks for your heartful support, but I need to run things my way. Wouldn't be much fun otherwise!

13 Jun 2011 07:58 pm

Also I like to say partially a lot.

13 Jun 2011 09:40 pm

Great, now I wanna see the original comic. :(

13 Jun 2011 10:07 pm

Why did you take it down? It's still funny even if Gear is only the Japanese name.

13 Jun 2011 10:52 pm

Well, dang it...

So now I'm curious. I was at work checking my RSS feed and only saw the itty-bitty thumbnail, so I have no idea what it was about. And I suppose that isn't a huge mistake, but now it's gone so... whatever, I guess.

About new comic: looking good. I can't help but think of... those two muppets from Sesame Street I just can't remember the name now seeing Throh and Sawk together. :P

13 Jun 2011 11:31 pm

BRING IT BACK!

I want to see the original one. PLEASE PUT IT BACK UP!

13 Jun 2011 11:53 pm

thanks for the new wallpaper :P

14 Jun 2011 01:34 am

Please Post us a link for the 'Gear' comic Please?

14 Jun 2011 06:13 am

Aww I want to see the Gear one. And at least its name is Gear in some language right? Besides I got so used to reading their Japanese names on this one pokemon egg site that reading the English ones in the game actually threw me off (which was pretty sad...I still don't know 'em cause I made the mistake of nicknaming the pokemon).

For two pokemon I hated this version though Sawk and Throh (bleh) look pretty awesome here though. If they'd looked like this perhaps I wouldn't have chucked them into the dislike box.

14 Jun 2011 07:29 am

You should have kept it.

Who cares if you used the japanese name, that should be common knowledge among true pokemon fans. For all the people who were like "THATSNOTHISNAMEHISNAMEISKLINK>:o" you could have just been like, "I know what his english name is, if you're not smart enough to get the joke you can gtfo."

14 Jun 2011 08:20 am

do it!

post them any way

14 Jun 2011 10:37 am

He said he doesn't want to

This is Bumbazzle's comic. What makes you people think that he has to do everything you say? If the Internet demanded that you publish every scribble you've done since age four would you do it?

He wasn't happy with it. This wasn't something he was forced to do - he didn't want to have it up. That's his decision, and one he has a right to make. It's not going to be linked to, and we can all just deal.

14 Jun 2011 08:28 pm

Nice!

Hey, Bumbazzle. Nice comics you got there, congratulations, I'm your fan =D

14 Jun 2011 11:09 pm

I'm loving you're comics. They are really refreshing compared to the rest of the millions of unoriginal pokemon comics out there. Keep em coming!

14 Jun 2011 11:24 pm

These pokemon should have been like that to begin with. That would be an awesome idea. Sawk, The gangster Pokemon....

15 Jun 2011 05:36 am

Do Sawk and Throh remind anyone else of Bert and Ernie?

15 Jun 2011 05:50 am

For some reason the name 'Throh' always reminds me of Iroh from avatar, haha

15 Jun 2011 06:16 am

Oh god. I want this in wallpaper sizes. This in 1920x1080 on my desktop would be awesome.

15 Jun 2011 08:48 am

Am I the only one seeing them as Atlas and P-Body? All they need is a portal gun.

15 Jun 2011 12:51 pm

Please, please, please put the gear one up? Pretty please?

18 Jun 2011 06:13 am

@everyone who insists on calling it Klank

Stop calling it Klank! It's KlanG! KLANG! Get it right for Arceus's sake!

18 Jun 2011 01:56 pm

24 Jun 2011 04:21 pm

28 Jun 2011 08:15 pm

Galarin (Guest, not at all aimed at the real Galarin): stop being such an ass hole

12 Jul 2011 11:02 pm

The second evolution is Klang, not directed at the strip creator, but at the countless number of people who dont seem to have progressed very far in the game. Klink. Klang. Thats why the third form is KlingKlang and not KlingKlank.

18 Jul 2011 09:50 am

@ArcticFox

I thought the final evolution was Klinklang.(Also, hooray for ass-holeness!)

25 Jul 2011 05:24 pm

This reminds me of something...

Call me crazy, but this reminds me of the two bad dudes in Bonanza Bros. (dunno if anyone played the game)

25 Jan 2012 05:36 pm

Will this drawing ever be made into a t-shirt? I would totally wear it if it was one.

17 Mar 2012 06:00 am

I would buy a t-shirt with this on it. I bet it would look spiffy

01 Dec 2012 04:30 pm

They made me remember the Blue Brothers =P
