but I would guess that Dream Eater is used to substitute for the Insomnia, especially since 8 of the 11 Pokémon who can have Insomnia can learn Dream Eater.

Wait a minute...
Ariados, Banette, Delibird, Drowzee, Honchkrow, Hoothoot, Hypno, Murkrow, Noctowl, Shuppet, and Spinarak have a little quirk:
All can have the ability Insomnia (Delibird by dream world) and all can learn Hypnosis

And this is why, here in the real world, we have sleeping pills. I wounder if pokemon can overdose on simple things like advil?

MAYBE OVERDOSING ON SLEEPING PILLS WILL WORK THEN. THAT OR KNOCKING THEM OUT WITH HAMMERS AND WILL THEIR OUT THE APPEAR IN THE DREAM WORLD.

I've always wondered why in the cartoons they never used a Hypno's Insomnia to make that Jigglypuff happy that someone could stay awake while it sings.

@SassyThePokemonLover: They actually did that with a Whismur's Soundproof, though it passed out from exhaustion anyway from a previous battle.
