This is what happens when you add pointless details to pokemon designs!

true in the pokemon manga is the easiest to catch a ursaring on the ring and on teddiursa too

01 Jan 2011 09:47 pm

its like...

its like changing one word when quoting someone and saying its your own. i know a lot of pokemon are "somethings, with a cool something" but ursaring is literally its name: bear + ring. lol.

I've wondered a good while about the 'ring' part of its name as well, but now it feels awkwardly obvious.

02 Jan 2011 09:54 pm

No wonder I've never had trouble catching an Ursaring.

03 Jan 2011 07:43 pm

ive always felt the old pokemon look the best.

This comic is brilliant, +fav!

Erm, Asian bear species have contrasting marks in their chests. Guess what Ursaring is based on?

The joke still works well, anyway.

does anyone else hear the lyrics, "HIT ME WITH YOUR BEST SHOT!" playing in the background?

You go ahead and aim right between his muscular, razor-bladed-tipped arms that can probably rip a man in half without any effort.

I'm gonna go punch that seed some more.

:D

The first thing that comes to mind upon seeing the last panel is an old Far Side cartoon, where one stag is looking at a target-shaped series of rings on his chest, and the other remarks, "Bummer of a birthmark, Hal." :)

It's like they say. The best offense is a good defense, but a bad defense is just offensive.

others

@PokemonBrown: alot of the first gen pokemon are just plays off of the real animal they are based on: Ekans = snake backwards. Arbok = cobra backwards (with a K). Haunter is a ghost (haunts). Abra, Kadabra, Alakazam (magic phrase). etc etc.

@SilverWarden: Yes Raichu in japanese translates roughly to Thunder Squeak

Camerupt

Even better, Camerupts. They're like...walking shooting ranges.

@Guest: Yah, jolteon in Japanese is Thunders, Vaporion is Showers, and Flareon is Booster. Those made me laugh so hard when I found out...

Is it me, or does Sunkern's eyes look like Jeff the Killer's?
