how to win
the game bases winning on level and hp. catch a high level bug pokemon at full hp and you're almost sure to win. that's all it cares about. species makes very little difference.

^Yep. But it's difficult to know that from the beginning, and judging by the sheer difference in catching difficulty, it really does look weird how Pinsir or a Scyther can lose to a much lesser bug.

I like your comics. I don't get all the jokes but some of 'em are pretty funny. This one is hilarious because it's so true, it happens ALL THE TIME!!! UGH!!! And the phone calls with 'amazing'items for you, they drive me mad. Also, do you have any idea how hard it is o get a female Chikorita? UGH!! My friend had to hatch heaps of eggs just so I could get one because my Chikorita HAD to be a girl and I was too lazy to hatch my own out. But now I've got my Chikorita and I love her, I'm sure it's unhealthy to be so attached to a pokemon but... never mind.
Great comics! *thumbs up*

The glee pouring out of his face hurts me. But grumpy face next to him makes me giggle

Actually, the point of the contest to capture the pokemon with the highest level and to leave as much HP as possible

I once won it with a Volbeat. In third place was... a Volbeat. Point, Phoenix.

Just you watch, there will soon be a fishing contest in the games.
Then you'll just want to kill all those fishermen and their f***ing magikarps.

Species matters
Species matters as well as level and remaining HP. The rare ones are best (pinsir, scyther, butterfree, beedrill, combee). I tend to bring someone with a paralyzing or sleeping move and status the first rare guy I encounter. Then I just huck pokeballs at it.

@Nicholas: So true. I still remember when I failed to win with a Schyther and then I won the second time I tried with a Caterpie. I named it "Win"

I entered my first bug contest when i was about eight years old, and i caught a scyther. it was level 13 and had about fifty health left, and the winner was a level 13 scyther. NOT MINE. I ended up calling it KILLRICK! after the amazing scyther's happy owner. I honestly meant it...

I'd like to see a caterpie crush your backbone with those things on its head.

The bug catcher in the last panel looks like the bug catcher in MokePon, the one that just died...

@Nicholas: I think that they battle them. So yes, species will make a difference, but not if the Pokemon has low HP and could be knocked out with a Tackle or two

The trick is to NOT beat it within an inch of its life (ie 1hp), they seem to take points off of that. Just put it into sleep and keep chucking balls.

@AuraX: Atleast the Safari Zones and Great Marsh aren't entirely pokemon-catching contests...if they were, we'd all be screaming at the Nidoran and Pidgey catchers who won.

That's cause u have to capture with full health. Less health less poins :)

I've been that guy
As it's been mentioned in the previous comments, HP plays a role into your score. So because caterpie's catch rate is so low, you can catch one at a high level at full HP and win the contest when you are in need of a sun stone.

it shure aint FARE
My deep, ugly grudges from every bug contest I've participated in have now emerged. It's not pretty.
In other news, I cleaned up the menu a bit, removing ALL unnecessary links. Feel free to use the links according to your own judgement.
Ciao.
